Transloading

Transloading that moves your freight to the right trailer

Freight moved from containers and rail to trucks, or from one trailer to another, with counts checked at the dock.

1Container or rail
2Dock transfer
3Outbound truck

How it helps

Ocean containers, rail boxes and over-the-road trailers rarely line up with where your freight needs to go next. Transloading moves cargo from one piece of equipment to another so it can continue on the most sensible route, and it is often the point where loads are split, combined or palletized for the final leg.

What's included

  • Container and trailer devanning
  • Transfers from container to dry van or from trailer to trailer
  • Floor-loaded freight palletized for the next leg
  • Splitting one inbound load across several outbound trucks
  • Combining shipments onto one outbound load
  • Counts checked and discrepancies reported

FAQs

Transloading questions

What is the difference between transloading and crossdocking?

Transloading is about moving freight between equipment or modes, such as container to truck. Crossdocking is about sorting inbound freight and sending it out quickly with little or no storage. A single job can involve both.

Can you palletize floor-loaded containers?

Yes, palletizing floor-loaded freight is a common part of a transload. Share carton dimensions and your pallet requirements so we can scope the job.

Who arranges the trucking?

Tell us how you would like to handle it when you request a quote, including whether your own carrier will collect the outbound load.
